Government Unions Pillage the Staes

In 1978 the State of California started a program designed to protect the identity and addresses of law enforcement personnel from being given out by the DMV to the wrong person. A very good idea at the time. Well, DMV will no longer give out any personal information and with the Internet finding out the information is easy.
One would think that the program would kind of just disappear since it no longer has a purpose. Enter the State's most powerful group, State Employee Union. "The Special License" program has grown and grown through the granting of the special privileges to union members. That means that union members who are enrolled in its program are immune from any camera enforcement, parking restrictions, or any other motor vehicle infraction. It is a Get Out of Jail free card for the selected few.
Is there an end to the abuse of the taxpayer for unnecessary perks for the unions? It seems that Government Employee Unions are doing much more harm to this country then any good for their members. The unions have caused cities to file bankruptcy to gain concessions. They have the taxpayer screwed.
The Governemnt Employee Union needs to be put into their place. They work for us, not the other way around. When it is in the best interest fo the city and it's residents but opposed by the union it is time for change.
One more example of a mind set that holds oneself above your fellow citizens. If it is not the political class acting as royalty it is the union leadership who feel the members are there to support the leadership's excesses.
Dawn is coming to American and real change will be in the air. The leadership of this country has been warned and does not care. The Political elite has grabbed too much and gone too far finally.
Our founding fathers are spinning in their graves right now. We must take back our country.

Health Care Olympic's Style

Universal Health Care supporters holds Canada up as an example of great government health care. If it is so great why would the Premier of Newfoundland travel to Florida for heart surgery. This example provides an insight into government run health care that is sorely missing in today's debate. The reasons the Canadian Premier choose to come to Florida are many.

To begin with Canadian Heart Surgeons are using out dated techniques that require the ribs to be broken to get to the heart. In our country, this is a thing of the past. All that is needed is a small incision in the armpit. This allows significantly less healing time for the patient to fully recover.
The Florida heart surgeon he choose has performed over 8000 surgeries.

The delay being scheduled in Canada would of cost him his life. he could not wait for the next scheduled surgery, he needed surgery now to survive. The Premier stated concern was that he would not feel right using his position to jump to the front of the line ahead of other's not in his position. So he choose to come here for care. Interesting choice, demonstrates many shortcomings of their care. Almost half of the Canadians say they have considered coming to the US for health care. Can not say the reverse is true.
No American Politician would use his position to gain an advantage over an average American. The government here, unlike in Canada, would not have to ration care or delay surgeries. Not in the utopia that is being sold in Washington today, we all get everything we need for no cost to us. Just our grand children's grandchildren will pay it 100 years from now.
Other then cheap drugs which America is subsidizing, what are the advantages? Everyone gets quiet when actual examples are used because they can not be brushed away as nonsense.

Let's start over with health care reform which in itself is a great idea whose true time may have finally arrived.

Democrat Voters Bailing on Obama

In Texas there was a democratic primary the other day and the democratic party candidate was trounced (53%-27%) by an anti-Obama democrat. Kesha Rogers calls herself a Lyndon LaRouche Democrat who believes the president should be impeached. Her campaign startegy was one of constantly attacking Obama and his policies, especially health care. The message hit home and the Texas democratic party is in trouble. Even the Democratic Party can not march in sync with the President and expect to be re-elected. The party machine has met its match this time around and if the party doesn't figure this out they are apt to lose much more then a few elections.
What message should Congress hear from all this? If you vote for the President's health care bill except challenges from within your own party, because Republicans are not alone in their pain over the direction of the country.
VOTE NO TO SAVE YOURSELF AND THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.

Rangel Validates ONE TERM & OUT

The fun in Washington keeps on rolling. Another example of why term limits would work is on display. Mr. Rangel (D-NY) has stepped down as chairman of the House Ways & Means Committee due to ethics issues. Seems like this time around Caribbean vacations were being given away and Mr Rangel is not one to miss a freebie. Only later did he try to blame his staff, not once owning up to what he did. Still under investigation for more serious issues, he faces a rocky future in the House. Late income tax payments for a rental property in Dominican republic. Non disclosure of hundreds of thousands of dollars of wealth. The question there is where did it all come from? Not a question we should be asking a 20 term congressman. Pitiful person with weak moral character. Kick him out of office as soon as possible.
His supporter and enabler Nancy Pelosi talked big about draining the swamp to root out corruption. Did she realize that included Democratic Leadership? She lives in a glass house on this one. How can she complain about him when she does the same stuff every day. Some one should look into her use of military aircraft as personal private jet service. Why doesn't the Speaker of the House fly commercial (even coach) like the rest of the country. There is no operational need for her to waste taxpayer money on military jets for her travel.
Pelosi cleaning up corruption would be like Obama leading the Armed Forces, if it was not real it would be hilarious.
ONE TERM & OUT would save this country a lot of grief and money.

Global Warming Job Fair $179,700 Gov't Job

Global warming the science might be in question, but global warming politics are going full steam ahead. It seems the administration feels this is a good time to create and hire 13 people as Climate Change Program Managers in the department of the Interior and the EPA.
Let's start them at $179,700 per year plus benefits equaling the salary for a total cost to taxpayers of just under $360,000 per employee, totaling $5,800,000 per year. This seems to be some one's stimulus, just not the taxpayers.
Is this an end run around congress and the American taxpayer. Is the administration beginning to staff permanent government jobs with global warming proponents. Who hires these people and why do we need them?
The disconnect between Washington DC and the rest of us is growing. George Washington instituted his own term limits when he refused President for Life. It is time for a newly elected government to try things out. It could make things worse, or it could make them better. Don't know which, but what i do know is this, Change will be Good for the country even if it a bad idea.

Justice at the Justice Department?

Attorney General Holder has issues. We all know this. The time has come for some accountability. AG Holder should not of been confirmed due to his tax issues, whihc brough into question his character. His character has been in question alot since then.

Now the lastest, in a serious rebuke, the top ranking career attorney in the department, accuses the Office of Professional Responsibiltiy with seriousd wrong doing in the investigation of the Bush Era torture memos. Even though he personally disagrees with the lawyers decisions in support of torture, it is a very comlicated legal matter involveing a complex area of unsettled law. He took issue with the departure of standard investigative procedures in favor of plitically biased investigating.

The OPR is led by Ms. Brown, who just happens to have been nominated for a federal judgeship by the president. This is the same office that is "currently" investigating the dropped Voter Intimadation charges in Philadelphia. The ethics of the Justice department's OPR are in question, as is the leadership under Ms. Brown. The smell of political back scratching is overwhelming and leads right to the White House.

Health Care TV

With the Health Care Summit coming to television today a few comments to ponder.
Let start with the President, he has a compromise plan he crafted with the Democratic Congressional Leadership at the White House and a plan to pass the bill through a back door budgetary manuever called reconcilation which only needs 51 votes to pass to avoid the Republican filibuster. Whether he can get 51 democrats to vote for it is a different issue.

Republicans are in a different seat. Being labeled the party of no has not stuck because it is not correct. The party of sell outs would be a better description. Is there a back bone in the Republican Party? Stand Up and scream for your ideals. Less Government, Less Taxes, Less Regulation.

Democrats are the ones who the President has screwed. To vote for the plan will mean no reelection for a lot of people. In Nevada watching the President shove Health care down the throats of people who wanted to talk about jobs and the economy, and instead got a "lesson" with a good finger wag, on the need to pass Health Care Reform at any cost. Say Good Bye Mr. Reid.

The President had the largest majority in Congress I have ever seen and failed to enact Health care Reform. His response is to blame the Republicans. How about someone taking some responsibility?
With all this the President calls for a summit on Health Care. Announces it on television without informing Republicans about it. Then dictated when, where, how it will occur. What purpose is to be served if the deal is already done. Oh yeah, I forgot, it makes great television and the president is running for relection you know.

Federal Job Fair Going Strong Despite the Economy

If we want to control our own future something needs to be done. The situation in Washington is out of control. While the country is tightening their collective belts and hunkering down, the federal government has gone on a spending spree for a lot of stuff not really needed. In this blog it was pointed out that USA Today has shown in 18 months jobs at TSA earning $170,000 or more a year had gone from 1 to 1690. Since the economy is so bad and they are struggling so much but doing such an outstanding job (required performance rating for the big bucks), average bonus for these folks, $14,831. Did I hear the President complain about Bonuses? The President has credibility gap and it is widening.
Investigative giant, USA Today has noted that in the Defense Department, during the same 18 month period, the number of civilian employees earning more then $150,00 has gone from 1,868 to 10,100.
The President has proposed a modest 2% pay raise this year. The raise is treated as an inherent right. There should be no raise this year. That would save $120,000,000,000 (120 Billion Dollars). Chevy's Mexican Restaurant's cut their salaries by 10% across the board to make the company survive this downturn. Could you imagine the savings of a 10% reduction in salaries across the government...it has a lot of zeros in it. ($600 Billion a year).
One last item from USA Today
When I was growing up the federal worker was under paid but their generous benefit package made up the difference. Today the numbers tell a different story, the average compensation package for a federal employee is $119,982, an employee working for a private corporation $59,909.
A Tsunami is coming to America and it is building from within. A cleaning house in Washington is needed. It is enough to make you want to do something.

Unions - A Government Entity

Unions have passed a milestone that has been a long time coming. There are more union members working for the government then for private industry. This has been trending for years but the scale has been tipped. Why would this be the case? Unions extract better working conditions and pay from the employer. A private business will be constrained by the dollar value of any increase by the limit in revenue. The governments are in no such position. When government employees demand more pay, governments simply raise taxes. Whether it is the air traffic controllers making in excess of $125,000 a year working 32 weeks. They still work forty hours a week but eight hours are overtime. Sweet Deal, anyone have something like this in the private industry? Or if it's TSA, who is about to unionize it's workforce. Currently airport security costs ten times what was spent in 2001, and that is about to rise when the screeners get bargaining rights. We will all pay through higher taxes. Every dollar spent on security is a wasted dollar for the economy. Security produces nothing. Terrorists win when we cripple ourselves through the idea of being "safe".
Unions helped build this country and created the middle class. That was then, but this is now. How did unions help drive GM out of business? Is there a place for unions in the modern world where business has evolved to a point where it is the business's best interest to treat the employee well. Private employers learned the lesson from the union of old and I do not think there is one instance of a business taking advantage of it's workforce because there is no union. As most of you know, I own a Restaurant and Comedy Club, and my corporate background includes time working with Unite Here. There was no advantage for the staff in having the union, as a matter of fact, it made my job easier because I did not have to worry about my employees, just he contract rules. In the end the contract was used against improvements for the staff more then it helped the staff. Unlike some managers I embraced the union's contract and it made my job easier, not having to worry about the staff since everything I was allowed to do was written out in contract form. I knew the contract better then the shop steward and it showed during grievances. I never lost one out of dozens filed against me. I know for a fact that hiring is hampered in a union setting. Managers are very reluctant to hiring new employees where a union is involved. Excellence is not something the union wants to talk about. They much prefer the discussions stay on minimal performance levels. If one employee does better then another, everyone will be expected to perform at that level so there is no incentive to excel. The incentive is to do as little as possible to keep every one's hours maxed out.
What purpose do unions play in the future world? In developing countries where working conditions are horrible, unionization will help the people. Where ever there is a missing middle class, a union would take workers from the lower class and create a middle class. Unions really helped build this country into what it is today. That does not mean that they are still fighting for good. It seems unions today are all about entrenched power and money for the elite. Sound similar to the political class we have created also.
Ask any person involved with unions (even teamsters) and ask what is most corrupt union today? The answer is Service International. Happens to be the number one visitor to the White House averaging 1.1 visits per week. Does he have an office there or something?
Union Leadership and Washington's Political Leadership are fighting for their survival in a battle that is just beginning. The loser will be the American taxpayer. We need to clean house.

True for union leadership or elected office. Get elected, do what you need to do, return to your life. How many union leaders actually work in a union job now? How many politicians know how to run a business? Prove it, like Mark Warner from Virginia, one term as governor, did an excellent job, went back to his family, then decided to run for senate, won and is currently working hard for Virginians. Will he run for reelection? Should he run for reelection? He is someone whose opinion I greatly respect and I would like to ask him his opinion on one term and gone.
It takes a great man to take himself out of office. George Washington was offered to be king of the new land and turned it down and insisted on transfer of power through the executive branch. That single act has changed history. GW proved that man can overcome his nature and do what is best for everyone and not be selfish. How hard would it of been for Ted Kennedy to not seek reelection? Patrick Kennedy has done it and he is going to use his life to help others. Does that mean he will never serve again? Not a chance, this is the way it was meant to be done. Serve, go home to work, possibly serve again in another position, do the job and go home to do again if the situation warrants. Would Massachusetts been better served by eight different senators with eight different sets of ideas and experiences or one man for forty eight years?

Need a Couple of Days in the Sun?

After doing hours of research on the Internet for an inexpensive long weekend away, I thought i would share the results with you.. Three Nights with Airfare allowing us to get away Monday and returning Thursday back to work for the weekend. All inclusive would be nice but not necessary.
The hands down winner for a short trip like this is Grand Bahama Island followed by Nassau. The airfare is a big part of it. The best deal was to the Wyndam Grand Bahama all inclusive with air for $777 a couple. Yes a couple. Reviews were mixed so step out of the inclusive and stay at Lacaya and you can do that with out the inclusive but much nicer accommodations and location. In the heart of Lacaya with its market shops, restaurants, casino and beach or the resort thirty minutes in a cab away.
The next destination to show up is Mexico with the beautiful Oasis resorts. The trip can be had for $1200 inclusive. It is Mexico and that has both good things attached to it and some really bad things attached to it so you would have to decide for yourself.
Worth mentioning is the Carnival Cruise out of Baltimore every Sunday. Seven days starting at $1000 per couple. Anyone considering a trip should consider it because without the cost of airfare getting to and from the port, cruises become fairly inexpensive. Balcony room on a cruise in March is $1300 for a couple. They are serious about their fun on Carnival.
Next on the list was Dominican Republic with a couple traveling for three nights and air with inclusive stay coming in at $1600.For that range the Carribean opens up for you ranging from St. Thomas to Aruba with great deals. Compare these with a trip to Miami Beach costing $800 without F&B.
Just thought I could help someone get out of town and enjoy themselves even if it is just for two full days. I like to count the days that you wake up and go to sleep in the hotel as real vacation days. This trip nets you two real days of fun in the sun.

Newt Gingrich and President Obama Agreeing?

Less Government, emphasis on more commercial services. This is what President Obama proposes in the new NASA budget. It is a great idea whose time has come. Recommended many times by bipartisan committees and boards but ignored by NASA, this change of emphasis for NASA allows greater exploration and less of the "grunt" work of space travel. That is largely the transporting of equipment and supplies into low orbit. With the closure of the Space Shuttle program the lift capacity of this country is greatly reduced. Russia will be utilized and not to leave us dependent on the Russians, NASA has been using commercial launches for years.
Commercial launches will open space to many more people and result in jobs that our future can be built around. This is a jobs program with lasting effect like the Apollo project, which produced many commercial benefits. Not just products like Velcro but engineers and an increase of knowledge still being exploited today around the world,
By getting out of the low orbit business NASA is free to do what it was designed for: Exploration.
The low orbit world has become a business zone and NASA should willingly walk away to greater things. In the final frontier, the exploration of space, it seems there can be real bipartisanship if President Obama and Newt Gingrich agree. Health Care Reform in Space?

Health Care Reform part II Reducing Costs

Health Care reform needs to have a process of determining what solutions have been working at the state level and move them to a national level. States have been acting as laboratories for health care reform for decades and there is plenty of evidence out there of what works and doesn't work. This seems like the logical way to go about it.
Not in Washington DC, logic has nothing to do what is occurring in DC. Logic has left the capital a long time ago and is sorely missed. Logic would tell you to work with others nicely, because one day they might be in charge , as support grows for one term and your out, these issues just disappear forever short memories do not carry grudges.
One of the most successful Health Care reforms enacted by the states has been Tort Reform. Now that is a very dirty word among democratic leadership. What got me interested in Tort Reform was a response from Nancy Pelosi about why it would not work. It was such a bad performance it made me think if she is so against it to sound this stupid defending not doing anything, there must be something to it. So the deeper I looked and the more I read the better Tort Reform looks. It has contained costs in every state that has enacted reform. How can any of the elected representatives from the states where it has proven successful not be in support of it. Both republicans and democrats are guilty. How can anyone be against it if it is good for just about everyone. Well that last just about everyone means someone will be effected by it and they won't be happy. You know I am referring to the trail lawyers. Howard Dean came out and said it, "we can afford to anger the trail lawyers". Four of the top seven donors for Majority Leader Harry Reid's campaign are trail lawyer associations. Ms Nancy Pelosi manages to have four of her top eight donors be trail lawyers. This is as special as "special interests" get. In ten years these associations have donated $1 Billion to federal campaigns and $1 Billion to state elections. That is a lot of money! That will but a lot of influence. The time has come for change, just not the change that we were promised.

A Few Good Men Destroyed in DC

Washington DC has a way of destroying good men. They come to town with integrity and character and it seems to be drained out of them the longer they serve. There are bad men who get elected also, but not much can be done to them except get them out of office (One Term Limit would accomplish this).
The people who I want to discuss are good people when they get here. When "fiscal conservatives" arrive in town screaming of cutting spending, take as much pork as "liberal spenders" by justifying to themselves that if they did not do it they would be short changing their districts. How about standing up for your principles that got you elected in the first place, which was not to secure as much pork as possible. Although by doing such a thing it sure helps your reelection campaign through taxpayer dollars. The incentive is there so you can continue to be reelected regardless of the needs of your district. (see Murtha International Airport with two flights daily) One more large reason why one term and your out would be a great thing. The incentive would be to do what is right in your opinion, not what is best for reelection.
The founding fathers wrote as much about character as they did about actions when describing others and events of their day. Today character seems to be dismissed as old fashioned notion that has no place in today's world. Of course Tiger Woods comes to mind here, but it could be many other names, Kobe Bryant, Gary Hart, Jack Welch, Wilt Chamberlain, or JFK. I am not talking about a relationship where it is open, but a traditional marriage where each person makes a promise to his/her own idea of a higher power that they will remain faithful to their partner. I am not a prude and am not trying to cast judgement but using a person's past to create a judgement about their future behavior is just good business, someone who would break their promise they have made to themselves and the person closest to them in life, would be more likely to break a promise to you also. Is there such a thing as a good dad but a poor husband? Or is one of the requirements of being a good father the fact that you need to be a good husband also? Can you run a large organization well but be a horrible father/mother? These questions come to mind as I type away here hoping that if we discuss these things in the open it will help make myself a better person all around.

Health Care Reform Now...easy just listen

Health Care has been undergoing reforming for years now. It seems that we have 50 different approaches to the issue from the fifty different states. So why don't we put them all side by side and see what works and what doesn't. Seems too simple for real life doesn't it? There are a couple of issues that have to be addressed. They are the rising costs and increased coverage for more people. Lets look at increasing coverage so more people have the opportunity to purchase insurance. That does not mean everyone will choose to buy it though, and that should be a personal choice to make.
Ted Kennedy was never for universal coverage, his original idea was anyone working 40 hours of week would have affordable insurance as an option. The Great State of Hawaii has taken it a step further with what seems to my distant view as successful. I would welcome more people whom are more familiar with the system there to speak up and be heard. One would think this would be a good thing but in the current political situation anyone speaking up is attacked personally. Where are the elected representatives of the states that have been successful pushing their ideas to a national stage?
Hawaii passed a law requiring employers to offer insurance for every employee working 20 hours a week. They have achieved over 90% coverage and the system is highly touted by all sides. I would like to hear from the employers and see what it has done to them. I own a restaurant with 11 employees and what would the cost to me be? Can the cost be mitigated by reducing the payroll tax from 7% down to 4%? There are many other ideas out there that need to be heard. The President has talked a great game about listening to ideas and considering them, but his reality has been different. Hopefully Obama really means it when he says he wants to listen to the best ideas out there.
Another idea that needs to be discussed further is lowering the age of Medicare to 18. The system is already built to handle all the processes. it would just need to be expanded. Why create an entirely new bureaucracy when the infrastructure is already there?
There are too many good ideas out there not being heard or considered due to the political paralysis in Washington.

Term Limits - THE Answer to Todays Political Stalemate

Term Limits is an idea whose time has come. The country would be better served by its' elected officials if they officals were limited to one term in office at a time. The history of the country has politics as a part time occupation by real people working in the real world. The founding fathers warned time and time again against the creeping of power to the entrenched political class. Goerge Mason and James Madison both wrote as warnings that we have failed to heed as todays elected officials live as Roman Princes where the world is there for their pleasure. Junkets, insurance, banking, loans, all special circumstances for elected officails different then what you or I would recieve as a citizen. There should be no difference. Travel by coach in crowded airports and deal with security check points and delays just like the rest of us so then maybe something can be done about it.

Does anyone think that Ted Kennedy (taking his best at heart) serving for 48 years is better for the citizens of Massachuettes he served then if eight different people with eight different sets of experiences and eight different sets of proposals as answers to our problems had served as Senator. Rep John Murtha served 18 terms in the house. Did all the pork he secured for his district really make it worth while? Is it even better for his own district who might have gained federal largeness due to his oversized influence in the defense indusrty at what cost to their neighbors who were shorted what they gained? Is the country better off then if none of the pork was ever spent? 18 different people with 18 different suggestions and ideas on solving the countries problems never to be heard from due to the power of the incumbent. Not to belittle his accomplishments, which are great and varied, but is he not the problem which we would want term limits to avoid for us. Who remebers Abscam? Murtha was an unidicted coconspirator and still managed to get reelected. He should of served and moved on but the attraction of easy money and perks grows on you like a cancer. Remember Power corrupts all (any) of us so it is understandable to not want to relinquish the grip, but come on, it has become obscene.
Ethics probes, shady political action committees, Special Investigators, all costing millions of dollars a year could all be eliminated with term limits. One term and off you go. Good or Bad.

Example of Virginia - Virginia is one of the best governed states in the country and we have term limits on our Governor. The Governor may not serve consectutive terms. Because of this Virginia has had a steady stream of "Great" Governors coming from both national political parties. The person is elected, deals with the hand they have been dealt, and does their best for the state and moves on. No reelection worries getting in the way of the duties of their elected office. Wilder, Allen, Warner, Kaine, McDougal all did very well. Even if they did not do wonderful things they are gone before doing too much damage, and on to the next one. How can we expect a Congressman who is constantly running a relection campaign to really focus on the task of governing the country? Let alone deciding to do what is best for the country not his own self interest. In Virginia there is always talk about repealing the limits on the governor job but they never go anywhere in the committees. So even where we see success with term limits there are people who are opposed, usually the ones who are limited by the limits.

Addressing the issue of lobbyists gaining undue influence since all elected officials are "rookies". The lobbyists power would actually diminish with term limits. Think about it, if you were elected to an office and you are not worried about getting reelected, would you be influenced by outside opinions or would you do what you set out to do and get it done and go back to your life at home. There would be no donations year after year adding up to hundreds of thoudands of dollars which any sane person would admit will influence your thinking. It would be pretty awesome that every two years the entir ehouse turned over. Choas in a good way. Imagine the election of the Speaker of the House every two years and having a new person each time. Possibly might want to consider a three term limit for the House equalling the six years a Senator would serve in his one term.

Which person is more beholden to special interests and lobbyists? Compare the mindset of a new congressman who just got elected and is on a mission, which is why he ran in the first place, not worried about winning reelection or the congressman who just got elected and wants to stay in office and that becomes his primary concern, which is undertandable and not a bad thing. It just produces different results. But it is not good for the function of the position and the good of the country.

Time for a New Republican Party

The failure of political leadership over the last 20+ years has set the foundation for a third national party. Throughout our history the two major parties have evolved to a point where they lose touch with the people they claim to represent and a third party pops up and takes one of the existing party original credentials. Usually one of the two existing parties, usually the minority, will absorb the ideas of the upstart and call them their own. Which in the case of the Tea Party and the Republican Party, would amount to a discovering of the original conservative movement. Today Ronald Reagan would be a Tea Partier, not a Republican. As a matter of fact, Ronald Reagan would be disgusted with today's Republican Party.
The Tea Party will start fielding candidates for elections all over the country. And as the idea spreads so will the strength of a third party. My prediction is that 20 years from now the Republican Party will of developed into a national force originating from the Tea Party of today.

What Do You Speak Out About?

You can tell a lot about someone by what they are passionate about. The flip side is also what they are not passionate about says something also. Let's start with Haiti and the Americans who have been arrested. This is not the time for nice diplomacy. The Secretary of State, who is responsible for Americans travelling overseas, should be on her soap box demanding their release. She should be backed up by the President if her words are not heeded by the "government" of Haiti. Both have been largely silent on the subject.
This situation is even more important since it involves American citizens but is similar to the Guatemalan constitutional crisis, where our administration sided with Venezuela, against the Guatemalan constitution and with a fascist. Completely baffled on this one, and no hard questions were asked or answers given as to why.

President Obama has chosen to speak up about the bonuses on Wall Street but continues to pay out bonuses to federal workers. USA Today pointed out the fact that 18 months ago there was 1 (one) employee making more then $170,000 working in the Department of Transportation, today there are 1690 (one thousand six hundred ninety). That is $287,300,000 ($287 million) in payroll just for those 1690 employees not counting benefits as health & life insurance, along with paid time off which is convertible to cash PER YEAR. Where is the outrage?
How much of a raise did you receive this year? Are you just glad to be working? The disconnect between the political elite and the average American has grown so wide it is not sustainable.

If it was not so real it would be funny department- a comment I read referring to the Obama Administration as a remake as a reality show of the West Wing. ( a masterpiece of a series)
For a group that bills itself as so smart they sure do stupid things regularly. We should always question the intelligence of someone who is bragging how smart they are. They tend to over emphasis the importance of intelligence in running the country (see Welcome Back Carter).

Republicans as Bad as Obama - 3rd Party Time!

A number of comments I have received seem to indicate that I have been attacking the president because I am truly a closet Republican. Rereading my posts I can not disagree with their conclusion.
So to be clear, the Republicans are the party of nothing. Not even worth mentioning to complain about. Their is no opposition to the president. He sets the agenda and defines the debates. The Republicans are reactionary at best. Where are the "true" conservatives out there? Where are alternate proposals for Health Care or Energy? Where are the fiscal conservatives these days? Have not seen one of them since the eighties. That was 30 years ago.
Today's conservatives says since the wasteful spending has been passed I need my share of it also. Instead of sticking to their convictions and be able to call the president out and point to how they have refused to be a party of the orgy of tax payer dollars. They justify it by saying they would not be doing the job the public elected them to do if they did not go after the money. This is the statements made by all of the leading conservatives of congress. Bond, MO....Wilson SC.....Alexander, TN....Bennett, UT all have gone after federal pork with a vengeance and then criticize the president about spending too much. Try Practicing what you preach.
George Mason wrote in the late 1700s that when our legislators start making different laws for themselves rather then being treated the same as the citizenry we have begun our decline. This has been occurring in Washington more and more these days. health care, Air Travel, Retirement, Bouncing Checks for free , deficit spending - doing all kinds of things that we, the public, could never get away with in the "real" world.
Washington is broken and the we need a clean slate to right the ship. With the Republicans and Democrats both spending recklessly (see Bush and Obama's records) it is time for a third party to emerge. It has begun with the tea party protests and if it really is populist anger that is fueling them, watch out. It is time to throw the politicians out of Washington and let the people take over. Can We Believe the President Anymore?

President Obama is on the verge of imploding. There is a book by Stephen R. Covey called the Speed of Trust and shows how a high trust environment will produce multiple times the output of a low trust culture. High Trust cultures are difficult to create and even harder to maintain but the payoff is rather large. The president talks a great game but does not seem to be able to back up his lofty talk with reality. Whether health care or the economy we are never sure whether the president is telling the truth or not. Saying one thing and doing something completely different has become all too common in Washington.
Let's look at Energy
Nuclear Power. During the State of the Union Obama stated he supports "building a new generation of safe, clean nuclear power plants" but in his budget funds have been slashed for Yucca mountain in Nevada. So he says lets push nuclear power but at the same time makes it impossible to deal with the waste. Talk but no money does not show support of the subject.
Gas & Oil Leases
Contrary to public statements supporting off shore drilling to decrease reliance on imported oil the president's budget shows decreasing revenue from the leases in 2011 signaling the administration's true intent of phasing them back not increasing the drilling. Even if one does not agree with his position, at least stick to your beliefs instead of trying to be everything to everyone.
Whether it is transparency, or lobbyists, or posting bills online for review, or Health care, we the people have no idea whether the President means what he says or even believes what he says. He trys to sound wonderful to everyone listening without worrying about accomplishing what he says. What the country is losing is very important to our future, our ability to believe in what the president says.

Pultizer Prize for the National Enquirer, Whose Your Daddy?

The national media used to be called the fourth estate because it provided a much needed check on the three branches of government. What has happened with the election of Barack Obama? He is a wonderful man and a gifted speaker but the lack of institutional cynicism coming from the news reporters is sorely missed not only as a challenge to unsupported claims, but also to fine tune arguments to help get the message out. The give and take, back and forth is good for democracy.
You know when you have a timeline and certain points are highlighted as significant to the subject matter of the timeline, well I think we might of just had one of those events on the timeline of the demise of 20th century media. The National Enquirer has been nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for investigative reporting.
One of my biggest issues with this award is that it is VERY much deserved and the National Enquirer should win, although with the bias in the media world, that they will win is doubtful. But they were nominated and that should be a wake up call to all those national newspapers and reporters out there that just fall in line and follow each other over the cliffs like lemmings. The National Enquirer followed the story from beginning to end. All of the other media outlets dismissed the story as unworthy of them. The Enquirer's reporters kept after it, digging and researching, like real reporters are suppose to do. The spoon feeding has domesticated the reporter corp to the point they think they are dependent on the government for their survival.
After years of denials and dead ends the newspaper was vindicated when the truth came out.....John Edwards was the baby's daddy after all. The Enquirer had it right from the beginning.

Populst Anger, Solution or Death Spiral?

Populist Anger, Is that Obama's solution to his problems? Redirect attention somewhere else?
It seems that the White House thinks it is in an election, with campaigning and fund raising but no substance. Now is the time for workable solutions, not pie in the sky wish lists. Campaigning is not going to stop the back lash from the failed policies and poor selection of candidates. Bringing back campaign strategists to work in the White House will not create good policy.

I have trouble understanding the administration's problem with other people's bonuses. Their own, no problem but give someone a pre-agreed upon compensation and get treated like a criminal. All the while criminals are treated to overnight stays in the Lincoln Bedroom. As former President of the New York Federal Reserve Bank, current Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner was the person who negotiated on the people's behalf with AIG and that was the time to wring concessions from the company about the bonuses not complain later. Once again with an Obama appointee you are left wondering, "Is it incompetence, or something else?" I wonder where Mr Geither will work after his time at the Treasury department is over? A bank on Wall Street perhaps???

I have lived in and operated a small business in the City of Alexandria and become familiar with anti-business practices. Yes, Everyone says they are for business, but then time and time again create policies and procedures that hinder business growth and creation. Now it seems that this issue is going national. We can not have a federal government that is against business. Small Businesses (which even Fortune 500 companies started as) is the engine that has driven this country for over 200 years. Why not create an environment that fosters business creation? I am not sure what Obama stands for (problem there don't you think) but we are learning what he does not stand for. Business. He has also shown us he is defintely not for keeping the government out of our lives.

Welcome Back Carter (or was it Kotter)

Jimmy Carter is a great man. He has been successful in leading a good life and setting an example for others to follow. He has raised a wonderful family and been a devoted husband his entire adult life. With all this said, He was a horrible president.
Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Bush II, Clinton, all had shall we say character defects that perhaps made them less of a saint, but managed to be successful presidents. Coincidence? I think not. Bush I was a great man, but his presidency did not meet his own expectations, Following Reagan would have been tough on anyone. His raised a very successful family while being faithful to his wife for longer then I have been alive. One son president and so far another Governor of Florida, maybe another president someday.
Where does this leave Barack Obama? My personal take on it is he means well and in his heart he wants to help others live a better life, but reality has a way of disrupting the best laid plans. I feel Barack Obama is on route to being one of the worst (if not the worst) president in the modern era.
Ronald Reagan often said the reason he was successful was he surrounded himself with greatness. I think the exact opposite is Obama's downfall, he has surrounded himself with marginal players in key positions. His most important jobs are staffed with not so great people. Never mind politics, or liberal or conservative, Republican or Democrat, but just a simple good or bad.
VP Joe Biden - will anyone defend this selection?

Sec State - Hillary, Obama's number one rival in the state department. Watch when she resigns next year so she can run against his failed presidency. She has done a better job at Sec State then Obama as president and that will haunt him during the primaries.

Sec Defense - Gates as a hold over from the Bush era has done well. He is a good man doing his best for the country. Obama's best performer so far and he inherited him from his nemisis W.

Attorney General - what more needs to be said other then letting the fox run the chicken coop. Just not a very nice person either. Dishonest is the way he is described by those close to him. (Justice Dept will be receiving more then it's share of comments here going forward) see IG firing, Black Panther dismissal, tax cheats, political shenanigans

Chief of Staff - an over looked position unless you study the great presidents. They all had great chief of staffs. As gatekeeper to the President, the influence is out sized. And Obama has a political hack in the job. He is a hatchet man so his performance should be no surprise to anyone. The real question is who picked him for as Chief of Staff? We know the answer and once again it reflects poorly on Obama. Chief of Staff should be focused on Planning and Execution. Two things that are sorely lacking in the White House and it starts at the top. Execution as in making it work, not killing your opponent. Instead his focus is on hurting the opposition party not doing what is best for the country or even the President.

The Real Comedy Zone

Everyone keeps telling me to share some thoughts about Comedy with you. Well, my first thought is the real comedy is happening on the front pages of the newspapers in the White House. Now to set the record straight, I am a registered democrat and supported Hillary during the campaign. I had all the hope that everyone else had when he was elected, but he has lost touch with those who elected him. He is being destroyed not by the Republicans, but by his own party in congress and his own elitism. Pelosi will be most responsible for the failed presidency of Barack Obama. Although another big culprit will be not listening very well. The fact that he has surrounded himself with people who only care about themselves shows poor judgement on his part. If it wasn't so real it would be hilarious.
Some of his selections for positions defy logic. The prevert who is the safe school czar. Tax cheats to work at the IRS, the irony is not lost on the public but Obama does not get it. The fiasco that is the IG firing, which leads to Michelle's hand not Barack's. The dimissal of charges against Obama supporters at the polling precient in Philadelphia. Lots to think and write about.

Live Jazz, Magic, Comedy at the Comedy Zone DC

It has been a while since I posted an entry here, so thanks for hanging in there. The Comedy Zone DC has been a complete success at the Double Tree Hotel in Crystal City. If you have not been there yet you need to attend a show just so you can appreciate the view. Along with the breath taking view, the hotel offers excellent service and fine dining steaks and fresh seafood. We feel priviliged to present our show in such incredible surroundings. Last Saturday we had our first full house and this weekend is looking great also. The comic this week is Tim Statum, one of the best the Comedy Zone has to offer.
On another note on entertainment in Crystal City, Wanda and I attended a showing of Cavalia right around the corner from the hotel. If you know any horse lovers this show is a must-see for them. The co-founder of Cirque de Soule created Cavalia due to his love of horses since childhood and that love come through whole heartedly. The program calls it " a poem for the eyes" and I could not describe it any better then that.
Back to the best comedy show in DC, or the best comedy show in Maryland, or of course the best comedy show in Virginia, the Comedy Zone DC is a unquie entertainment option for those looking for something special. We getting ready to start the Spring Season with a big laugh. We have our first comic and it is Wanda's favorite Mike Siscoe. After ten years Mike is still her number one comic. Come out and see why. Most of you know me personally and I do not say this lightly "this is a show you do not want to miss". You will try to remember some of his bits for the water cooler talk on Monday. The easiest way to get to us in head to the Chart House Restaurant on the waterfront in Old Town Alexandria. When you walk up to the Chart House's front door which will be on the right, we are on the left facing their door. There are two parking lots off of Union Street a half block North of King Street, one entrance off Union Street and the other down an alley directly across from the other entrance. This lot is directly under our building. Both lots are very close and cost $5 after 5pm which we will reimbruse you for when you arrive. We are working on valet parking but we will not be ready by this weekend so stay tuned for that. We are very excited to be on the water in Old Town and look forward to sharing an evening with you.

Comedy Zone DC gearing Up

Hello all,
We are very excited. The work at the new venue is just about complete and it is going to be great to do the shows there. Cory has been working his rear off to get us ready. The management at the Star Lounge and Ballroom is incredibly helpful to us and it is a pleasure to work with them. It is amazing the difference when the club actually wants us there. I loved the Carlyle Club, but the Comedy Zone was never "welcome" there. Obviously I am not working there anymore either although Wanda is still there if you get a chance to stop by and say hello (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday for Lunch).
The support we are receiving from the Star Lounge is awesome. Even better then that we just found out that Mike Siscoe will be our opening comic March 13th and 14th. Mike is Wanda's favorite, hands down. He was great at the Carlyle Club and I can guarantee (money back) he will not disappoint at the Star Lounge. Mike Siscoe is one of the best comedians we have ever had. We welcome him with open arms. Gemini will be coming in April with the magic show that went over so well last time he was in town. We also get to host Paul Hooper, one of my personal favorites all time. He never made it to the Carlyle Club and we look forward to seeing him again at the Star. Rapid fire, sarcastic Paul leaves you talking about it on Monday at work. Be prepared he might say anything. Our first month also brings Miss Gayle, who always puts on a first rate show. She actually gets more people to see her specifically then just about all the comics. Another winning show and wonderful person. We round it out with Ward Anderson, who has entertained us for years. I feel like he has grown up with us and is also one of our funniest comedians. You can not go wrong with any of our shows. To help us out we would appreciate if you got a group of people together for a wonderful night out. We have the three shows for you to choose from now, so there is no excuse.
Overall a great start to our season. The Comedy Zone DC is back with the best comedy show in DC, the best comedy show in Virginia, and the best comedy show in Maryland. (The repetitive nature of that sentence helps us be found in online searches, SEO is the term we learned)
We look forward to hosting all of you from Maryland who venture across the bridge to give us your support to live entertainment. We look forward to seeing all our "old friends" who supported us at Zig's and we look forward to making all kinds of new friends at the Star Lounge and Ballroom.

Comedy Zone DC new season begins March 13-14

We are back with our 2009 schedule. We look forward to entertaining you and your friends ths spring. Beginning Friday, March 13th and Saturday March 14th we will be offering nationally touring comedians to the DC area. We will be announcing the roster of comics in the next newsletter but I wanted to get everyone caught up on what we are doing.
Our newest venue is the Star Lounge and Ballroom on Little River Turnpike in Annandale. Easily accessible from I-395 or I-495, it is located at the intersections of Columbia Pike and Little River Turnpike. We have plenty of well lit and secure parking right out front. The venue is very nice and is used for weddings and events along with DJ and dancing late nights on Thursdays and Fridays. There is the lounge with a great bar and the main ballroom with a full sound and light system.
We will be performing three shows each weekend.

Friday Up Front is our Friday night show starting at 8 PM in the Lounge. The lounge is a more casual setting in addition to tables and chairs also has couches available for relaxing and enjoying the show after a long week of work.
Food is available throughout the evening.

On Saturday
The Comedy Zone Revue continues it unique brand of entertainment with a Dinner Show in the Ballroom starting at 7 PM with Live Jazz. This is our Variety Show that you are familiar with consisting of live jazz, followed by a couple of variey acts, and then the headlining comic. This is the perfect evening out for date night with dinner and the show.

Out late on Saturday and looking for some good entertainment?
Saturday at 11 is our late night stand up show in the Lounge area. The comics might get a little raw as we pull the restrictions off and let it fly. This is your classic stand up show.

Summer is Over Already?

The weeks go by so fast these days. I can not believe summer is over. How many trips to the beach did you make? I bet the answer is proportiant to the amount of fun you had this summer. Another season at Seacret's to remember. Bettina has made Ocean City her home now and is staying through the off season. She joins Johnny as one of the select few who get to work at Seacret's year round. Make sure you check it out during the fall, lots of fun still to be had.
We have our white water rafting trip coming up. The Gauley in West Virginia has the best white water rafting this side of the Colorado River. For three weeks in October (and only the three weeks) water is released from the dam to lower the reservoir to winter levels, this causes the normally placid category 3 rapids to become catergory 5. There are 5 catergory 5 rapids in a row on the upper Gauley and it is something to behold. So if there ar eno entries after our October 5th date with the river, well, you know what happened. Just kiding, last year the temperature was 82 degrees when the normal temperature s suppose to in the forties. I do not expect to be that lucky again this year so it I will have my wet suit with me. A great day in themiddle of no where enjoying mother nature.
The Carlyle Club has lots going on these days. Please if you are reading this you need to stop by and say hello. We love the fact that every day someone comes in and says they have been looking for us and it is fun to be "found".
We have the Comedy Zone on the 20th, Doc Scantlin on the 26th, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas on the 27th.
Doc is a show that if you have not seen him it is a must see. Pure entertainment, my goal has been to lower the average age below 60 because it is a show that you would not normally think about attending, but if you did you would be like, "wow, that was a great evening" and spend all day Monday at work talking about what you saw. Money back guarentee for all my readers.
Martha Reeves is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, so this should be a great show also. Heatwave and dancing in the Streets were her hits that others have covered (Stones and VanHalen).

Steeler Nation at Carlyle Club

Week One of the Steeler season was a great success at the Carlyle Club. The game was awesome with the Steelers rolling. The crowd is coming back to the best Steeler bar in the DC area. Our next event is September 21st with a 4 PM scheduled game. Big Steeler rally involving ex Players and the Steeler organization on November 2nd which is the Saturday before the Steeler/ Redskin game here in Washington. More info to follow. New TVs, bigger screen installed and a sound system to rival Zig's. Wait until you hear the Here We Go Steeler song at maximum volume. it makes me get chills thinking about it.
The last season never felt like football because we realize how muchof football was based around the Steeler crowd and it is unbelievable how good it feels to have everyone coming back. We really missed you all.
Comedy Zone had a full house last week and we have this week off because we have a wedding on Saturday. So the next Comedy Zone is scheduled for September 20th. Please get a group of friends to come out and enjoy the Carlyle Club at it's best.
Wea re really getting comfortable at the Carlyle Club as more and more people discover it. If you have not been there, you need to come and see for yourself what makes it so special.

We have a great show lined up for September 6th at the Carlyle Club. Grab a group of friends and make your reservation now. It seems to be a very popular weekend for some reason, we already have over 100 reservations. The following weekend we have a wedding booked on September 13th so there will be no show. Not having the comedy last week allowed us to host a wedding. If you have been to the Carlyle Club already then you know how beautiful this room is. Decked out for the wedding it was a sight to see. A comment I heard more then a few times is "It looks like something out of the movies." The wedding was a big success and we are able to host your special event.
The TVs are ready to be hooked up and Direct TV is coming for installation this week. The Steeler games are going to be "off the hook". Beginning September 7th with Opening Day for the Steeler's and going on when ever the Steelers play at 1 PM or 4 PM we will be opening for the game. Another great show for us at the Carlyle Club this past weekend with Just June entertaining everyone. Our thanks goes out to everyone who made it out to support live entertainment in Alexandria.
We have a great show lined up for this Saturday. The Saints and Sinners Tour makes it stop in Alexandria on August 2nd. Standing Room Only Grand Opening for the Comedy Zone Review

We asked for your support last week for our Grand Opening at The Carlyle Club and you all delivered. Our comic, Mike Siscoe, delivered an outstanding show to a standing room only crowd to get the Comedy Zone kicked off at what is being described by many as the nicest venue they have ever been to.
We do it all again this weekend for your enjoyment. Please grab a group of friends, make your reservation and come out to the Comedy Zone Review this Saturday at the Carlyle Club.
One strange thing was not every one took advantage of the complimentary valet parking, opting instead to park in and pay the garage. Maybe I wasn't clear before but the valet parking is free to the Comedy Zone guests and we feel adds to up scale event we are putting on.
I heard many comments about how nice it was to get dressed up and come out for an evening of great music, watch a great show, and then dance to a wonderful band. People from as far away as Richmond came up for the evening because there is nothing else like this offered anywhere.
Chris Calloway Brooks, who is Cab Calloway's grandson was at the Carlyle Club on Friday evening with the Cab Calloway Orchestra, made the comment that the Carlyle Club is the best venue in the entire country, comparing it to the famed Rainbow Room in New York without all the bs.
So come out and decide for yourself. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Well, it is time for our Grand Opening of the Comedy Zone Review at the Carlyle Club.

The Carlyle Club located in the new area of Alexandria housing the Federal Courthouse and the Patent Trademark Offices is ready to go with our Grand Opening July 19th with the Comedy Zone Review.

Dinner is followed by our variety segment, then our headliner, a nationally touring comedian from the Comedy Zone, comes to stage. After which the band continues with dancing and partying into the wee hours of the morning.
The Carlyle Club is a one of a kind restaurant. Styled after the "supper clubs" of an era long gone, you know it is different when you walk into the lobby. Upon entering the main room you are transported back to Harlem, circa 1930, with the rounded booths along the back, art deco styling throughout and the servers dressed in red dinner jackets. Add to the setting our award winning chef, Andrew Conlin, doing his magic in the kitchen and the ingredients are in place for a special evening. On top of that add some great entertainment and the evening is ready for you to enjoy.
We will offer our guests valet parking although we do have a parking garage in our building.

Settling In at The Carlyle Club

Everything is moving along for the Grand Opening of the Comedy Zone Review at The Carlyle Club. I am getting settled in running the place and Wanda is building the bar business slowly but surely. We started a new program we call the Speakeasy from Monday to Friday from 3 PM to 7 PM with $3 beer, wine and drinks and reduced prices on appetizers. Hoping to get our PTO crowd in after work regularly. I can not tell you how nice it is to be back in Alexandria. The difference between Chevy's in Greenbelt and The Carlyle Club in Alexandria in unbelievable. It is good to be back home.
We are going to revive the Zig's Steeler Show every Sunday. Please let all of your Steeler fans know we are back in business. We are going to have a lot of fun this season. Come be part of the best Steeler Bar in the nation, now at The Carlyle Club.
Other then that, Bettina and Johnny are rolling along down at Seacret's, who are celebrating 20 years as a restaurant this year. our Heather is doing great at Ibeza in DC, although she is occasionally working at the Carlyle Club with us. It is so nice to have the family working together again. Heather C is doing well at Mike's and will be working Saturdays with us at the Carlyle Club. Sherri is hopefully returning to us in a couple of weeks, so please come out and visit her again. Aynsley will be working during our larger events to help us out. Rebecca and Chad are coming back on Saturdays to make the Comedy work right. Too bad Magic moved to North Carolina. We are getting the band back together.

It has been a crazy week for us. Wanda has started a new job at the Carlyle Club in Alexandria. Please stop by and checkout the room. it is like no other room I have ever seen. Right out ofthe thirties. They are recruiting me to become general manager and I am giving it serious consideration. This week the possible next president of the United States is eating dinner there, John McCain visits the carlyle Club to wish mary matlin a farewell for all her support of the republican Party over the years, we are wondering if James carville will be in attendance since it is a republican event, but he is her husband. We will let you know what went on next week.

Carlyle Club is Looking for Zig's PTO Crowd

A great show this past weekend with Chris Wiles. We have another one of our favorites this week with Monte Allen. We have known Monte for several years and his shows are always one of the best. For a great night of entertainment come out and catch Monte Allen at Floyd's this weekend.
Big changes in the works for the Comedy Zone to be announced very soon. Celebrity shows are being signed this week and we are going to take you to another level of entertainment in Alexandria. Stay Tuned.
I wanted to mention Wanda's new job again. The Carlyle Club on Carlyle Street is her new home and it is beautiful. It is just around the corner from the Patent Trademark Office, so all of our Zig's friends who worked there need to go in and say hello to her. She misses all of our guests and now we can all be reunited at the Carlyle Club. Great Happy Hour, awesome food in a setting second to none. You have to Come See for Yourself to really believe it. Wanda is working Monday thru Friday for lunches and Happy Hours.

Wanda at the Carlyle Club - New Job

For all of you missing Zig's, Wanda starts her new job next week (Memorial Day Monday). She will be working Monday thru Friday at the Carlyle Club in Alexandria. I mentioned it in the newsletter a couple of weeks ago, they have a great happy hour with draft beer for $2.50 and what a room. You will be impressed with the bar. For all of our friends who work at the Patent Trademark Office, it is walking distance right out your front door. Please stop by and say hello. She looks forward to getting back in Alexandria, where all of her friends are.
This week, Chris Wiles visits us at the Comedy Zone. A Great show guarenteed. Chris is one of my favorites and rocked Zig's last time in town.
A really good show this past weekend with Lawrence Owens and Mary Asher at Floyd's. We are so proud of Lawrence, who was our original host at Zig's all those years ago. He is now touring as a headliner for the Comedy Zone and doing regular shows at Caroline's in New York City. He appears at Floyd's whenever he is in town for the weekend. Keep an eye out for him, he is going places in the comedy world.

Memorial day is Coming Soon - Summertime!

Another week flying by. Just to let everyone know...Summer is Here. Before we know it, it will be the holiday season. Where do the days go? It just reinforces the need to make things happen in your life. If we put stuff off, "until later", later may never come. Tell your mom you love her, hug your kids for no reason. Come to our comedy show and enjoy a night of good wholesome entertainment.
Mary Asher comes to town this week and she is a very funny lady. Lots of good bits on being a woman in today's world. She has been excellent on previous visits to Zig's.
You want to feel your age, Wanda and I attended the DC101 Chili Cook Off this past weekend and while the music was awesome, we might of been the oldest couple there. I usually look for someone older then us, just to make me feel better, but it was difficult to do there. We had a great time, Live was great on stage and Finger 11 really blew us away. Age is a funny thing. I do not see myself as old, but the kids sure look young. One of the realizations we in the restaurant business notice is the age for people to drink is now May 1987. Yes 1987 is old enough to get into bars and drink. Boy the time has flown by.

A Little Laughter for Mom

The Saturday shows are working out nicely with good crowds turning out for the one night show. We want to thank you for your continued support of comedy in Alexandria. This week's comic is Dennis Ross, who was hilarious his last two visits to Zig's. Dennis is one of those comics who make you think and laugh out loud. Usually you are quoting him on Monday at work. One of our favorites here over the years.
Pretty sad for the comic when they spend two weeks at the Atlantis in the Bahamas and then come to Alexandria to entertain us at Floyd's. The life of a rock star. Please make plans to see his show this coming Saturday at Floyd's and let's make him go home talking about Alexandria not the Bahamas. Just an FYI, they do like our crowds better because at the Atlantis, the crowds are distracted from being on vacation, and usually older, although not as bad as the cruise ships.
What a week already, if you know that my day job is managing a Chevy's Mexican Restaurant, you are aware of Monday being Cinco de Mayo. We were busy from opening the doors at 11 AM past our normal closing at 10 PM with a full house the whole time. We teamed up with El Zol 99.1 (the old WHFS) and had a rocking party with Pedro Biaggo, their morning deejay. To top it off, we have Mother's Day on Sunday, A crazy week indeed for the restaurant business.

We have another great show coming at you this week. Our big change at the Comedy Zone is we are going to a Saturday show only until we can find our own place to call home. This past saturday's show was packed, so thank you all for your support.
We kick it all off with Jazz at 7 PM. The band has been getting rave reviews from our guests and we follow the jazz with the comedy which makes for a great night of entertainment.
I recieved an email this week that I wanted to share with you.

As we grow up, we learn that even the one person that wasn't supposed to ever let you down probably will.

I really wanted to share the part about laughter being a part of the "good life". Seacret's has begun it season. Make sure you plan a trip down to Ocean City, Maryland this summer. When I lived in Colorado, there were people who have never been skiing, yet they live within two hours of some of the best skiing in the world. Do not be one of those people who say they did not make it to the beach this summer. Plan a trip and make it happen. We only live one life at a time. Ocean City is great for everyone. Lots of restaurants for good eating, great bars for the nightlife and best of all, a fantastic boardwalk for the family. We make sure we take one trip with our nephews and nieces ranging from 6 to 11 years old and I look forward to the arcades and amusement rides as much as they do.

Last weeks show was awesome. Saturday we had a great crowd that was "into" the show. What an influence the audience is on a show. We really appreciate you, those who come out to relax, laugh and enjoy the show. You make it fun for everyoone.
Another week goes by like a day. It seems like I just sent out the newsletter yesterday and here it is another week. Spring has arrived, and Winter is gone. Maybe Al Gore is right, the planet is warming because there was not much of a winter this year. The ski areas must of had a horrible year.
This week's comic is Kelly Terranova and he is a good one. Qucik wit and a grasp of current events keeps you on your toes and will leave you talking about the show all week. He has been on the road non-stop for a year and it is our turn to be graced with his presence. Top notch comedy coming at you this week at Floyd's.

Comedy Zone Alexandria for the best comedy show around

The comic visiting us this week is Jeremy Pierce. He is a very funny man who puts on a first rate show that will have talking at the water cooler on Monday. One of our favorites we have had over the years of producing the besy comedy show in DC.
We start the show with live jazz music at 7 PM, which has become a big hit with our guests. Enjoy Floyd's cooking while listening to LIVE music. Yes that would be live entertainment, which seems to be a dying art. This is one of the areas best and only live shows you can attend on a regular basis.
We are not the only show though, One of my dreams has been to recreate the Cotton Club. The Harlem night spot that served up nothing but live entertainment. Someone has beaten me to it here in Alexandria. There is a new spot called the Carlyle Club located just off Duke Street down near the PTO buildings. They have a room that is second to none I have ever seen. They do big bands and are very pricey but the scene is out of a movie. If you like big band music you must check this out. Wednesdays and Thursday there is no cover, ticket prices range from thirty dollars to one hundred dollars for some shows and the menu is in the thirty dollar an entree range. Like I said a little pricey, but WOW, what a set up. Dancing and dining like the good old days. This is a first class joint.
Back to us though, the shows are getting busy and we want to thank you. Please keep us in mind for your group outings. Comedy is so much fun with a group of friends and we can help make the night special.

Summer Entertainent Season is NOW

Wolf Trap has announced it summer concert series this week. There are a couple of great shows. For those who have never been to Wolf Trap, you should make it point to check it out this summer. It is so easy to get to from anywhere in this area, unlike Nissan Pavillion. Pleanty of parking, metro access and plenty of grass to relax on before the show on. You can bring a picnic basket with you, if you have lawn seats you can bring it in to the show with you. How cool is that!
There is a nice restaurant on premises called Occasions, make sure you have a reservation, and you can also pre-order gourmet picnic baskets and pick them up at the park.
Wanda and I are going to two shows as of now. Mark Knopfler, the guitartist from Dire Straits, who puts on an incredible show and UB40. Mark Knopfler's show is almost sold out after the first day tickets went on sale. UB40, which has been around for thirty years with eight band memebers, all of which have been together the whole thirty years. I think that is amazing in itself.
There is a whole bunch of different music and entertainment Wolf Trap brings to suit your taste, so check out their web site and pick a show, you won't regret it. Make things happen in your life.

On a similiar note, the Birchmere in Alexandria is bringing America to Alexandria for two shows, and next week they have the four original members of the super group Asia performing.

Wanda and I are planning a trip to Florida. Two days in South Beach on Ocean Drive and then five days diving in the Keys. There is a dive site off the keys in Florida called the Spiegel Grove, the ship, which when sunk to form a barrier reef tipped over on it's side and rested at about ninety feet. In came a hurricane and after the storm the ship was sitting up perfectly and it has become one of the best dive sites in the world.

Snuba and Comedy - Together?

March is just flying by. Summer is right around the corner. So as you plan to get out more often, keep us here at Comedy Zone DC on your mind. Please do not hesitate, make your reservation today for the show.

If any of you parents like scuba diving, a hobby I have recently gotten involved with, there is a program call the PADI Seal team. it is scuba for kids. I took my niece and nephew to Splash Dive Center in Alexandria and they went scuba diving in a local pool. It was amazing. They practice the same skills adults learn in the open water certification. They went underwater and did not come back to the surface until it was time to go. Almost a full hour underwater without surfacing. The kids talked about it for days. My sister, their mother, said they carried on all week at school about it. One of their teachers called her to see if they actually were scuba diving or did they make it up. We are going to the Bahamas in April with them and the Atlantis has a type of diving called Snuba. The air stays on the surface and has 25 feet of hose to descend with. The age limit is ten so they will be prepared to snuba when they get there. Fun for the whole family. If you dive. please checkout Splash Dive Center in Alexandria, the area number one dive shop. The people are fantastic and their trips are loads of fun in addition to the diving. All around good folks over there.

Do You Have Any Bests Left?

I love being at Seacret's. Even during the off season it is like a sanctuary that no bad follows you there. Last weekend we visited Ocean City for a relaxing get away from the rat race. Once again I ask, How is it that the best bar in the whole world is located in Ocean City, Maryland. Of all places possible it is there, trust me on that one. If you have never been to Seacret's make a specific trip this summer and you will understand why I say that.

One of my servers from Chevy's asks me if he can take the summer off and still have his job when he comes back to school in the fall. (University of Maryland is right down the street from the Chevy's I manage). He is an outstanding server and of course I say no problem. He says he and his girlfriend are going to spend the summer in Ocean City. They signed a lease on Sunday down there. They figured they could get a job somewhere, so they were not worried. After talking to Rico, the GM of Seacret's they will both be working there this summer. Now the point is, they are going to have the best summer of their life. Do you remember when you still had not had all your bests yet? I hope I still have some "bests" left in my life but doesn't it seem they are all in the past? Best Summer, Best Night out, Best Vacation, Best Concert.

I got them very excited about their summer and they will have an incredible time. If you have any children it is up to us as parents to help them experience life and give them bests they will remember forever.

Last week's attendance was one of the best we have since since opening at Floyd's. We hope it is a trend we will see continue. In both shows the crowds were treated to some great entertainment. R. Bruce had some serious fun on stage and the crowd fed off it nicely. If you missed the show. this week's comic is another who will have you talking about the show on Monday.
Robert York can scare the s**t out of you during the show. He is a cowboy at heart and in practice. He is also a very funny and talented gentleman. For a show that is as unique as it is funny, plan on attending this weekend's show at Floyd's.

Is summer right around the corner? It looks like the patio at Chevy's is going to be open on Monday. We opened it twice during February and now already once in March. Maybe Al Gore is right.
Bettina is getting ready to return to Seacret's for her second season. There is nothing like a hot summer day and her serving you a Dirty Banana and taking the atmosphere that is Jamacia USA . Put a visit to Seacret's on your must do list this summer.
Summer will come and go before we know it, so if we do not plan to have some fun, it is not going to happen by itself. Just like the Comedy Zone, if you don't plan a night out to enjoy some good entertainment, it is just not going to occur. Comedy Zone Maryland? Comedy Zone DC?

The weeks just fly by. With my day job at Chevy's going great, opening the cafeteria in Rosslyn, and the Seminary Plaza theater project inching forward, my toilet paper roll is spinning. This area adversion to snow and ice (really rain) is amazing. Friday's weather kept everyone home, while Saturday was a full house again.
We are trying to expand the Comedy Zone to new locations in the DC area to make it easier for everyone to get to a show near them and that is keeping Cory very busy. This past Thursday, Heather and I attended a seminar presented by Network Solutions on Search Engine Optimization. What it really showed me was how little about programming I know and how much help is available for those who really want to succeed. I would recommend this class for anybody who would like to increase their presence on the web. The Network Solutions people were fantastic to work with and we look forward to a long relationship with them.
The class was held at the Universities of Shady Grove. This is a campus of school buildings that all of the Universities in the area use as a satellite campus. Someone created a campus for use by the major universities without the university having to maintain a complete faciltiy. A brillant idea. All of our area universities were represented in this facilty. (just thought I would share that with you).

We have people travel from Maryland, DC, and as far south as Richmond every Friday and Saturday to watch our show. Without your support we would not be one of the best comedy clubs in DC. Maryland is a great supporter of the Comedy Zone Alexandria and we appreciate it. Davin Rosenblatt comes to Comedy Zone DC

Another week goes by like a day. John Maxwell uses the analogy that Life is like a roll of toilet paper....the closer the to the end you get, the faster it goes. Remember as a child how long summers were? Well we are all getting older by the day. Something proven to help people live longer is laughter. (How did you like that segway to the comedy.)
This past weekend Saturday's show was packed and Bruce Goodman did a good job. Everyone laughed. Ninety minutes out of your life for some good wholesome entertainment. Live entertainment is becoming harder to find these days. So please come out and support the Comedy Zone. Number one, you will help your health, and number two, you will help keep live entertainment in Alexandria.
Coming this week is Davin Rosenblatt, his previous visits to Zig's have been great. we look forward to a great show. If you can get a group of friends together we would love to see you at the show Friday or Saturday. Reservations are recommended since the show is getting more popular, especially on Saturday nights. It makes it easier on everyone so we can staff for the business we expect and also paying on PayPal in advance is very convenient for both, you and us.
We are hoping to announce a celebrity show in the next couple of weeks for late March. We have such a great room at Floyd's, the service, food and atmosphere are all excellant. Even the parking is a big plus for us. Free and convenient, how not DC.
On a different subject, the movie Michael Clayton comes out on DVD this Tuesday. The reason I bring it up is I follow the AMC Hoffman movie listings and you might of noticed that a movie will move down the list and hang in there for a while with two shows like 7 and 10 PM.
That usually means it is a very good movie. Then it usually disappears and resurfaces at Blockbuster some time later. Well, Michael Clayton was showing this past weekend at the theater and this week it is in Blockbuster. The only other movie I have seen do this was The Departed and that was a great movie. So I look forward to getting the DVD on Tuesday and watching it. I do not usually get excited about movies but this one has caught my eye. Just thought I would share that with you.
While sharing worthless information, tonight I am going to Seacret's in Ocean City (my favorite place in the world) to see Jimi's Chicken Shack. Wanda and I are always looking for good live entertainment and Seacret's provides some great nights in a great setting. One statement I have become comfortable making after travelling all over the world and I consider myself a bar conisurre, the best bar in the entire world happens to be in Ocean City, Maryland and it is Seacret's. Tiki bars in the South Pacific, clubs in New York and South Beach, Night spots in Vegas, none can beat Seacret's for a great time. I can't undertsand why Ocean City, Maryland has the best bar, but it does. More to come on Seacret's as the weather gets nicer.

Hello everyone
The show last week was great. Jack Wilhite did Rock and Roll impersonations. My favorite was David Bowie selling depends under garments. Friday turnout was light and Saturday was very good. It is amazing how much influence the crowd has on the show. Wanda and I are just back from Jacksonville where we had a family reunion and got to watch the Giants in the best Super Bowl in my lifetime. The only other game that even enters my memory was when Tennessee was stopped on the one yard line when time expired. To all my Patroit and Red Sox fans I have just three words for you....eighteen, and, one. The Pats went from arguably the best team in history to just another also ran team. It has been three years since their last Super Bowl. Stick a fork in them, they are done.
For all football fans you should do a search on YouTube under "Hitler Cowboy Fan", it is hilarous. We also have videos on YouTube under Taste Our Laughter.
Well this weekend we have Bruce Goodman coming to Floyd's Friday and Saturday. More information on the Comedy Zone at http://www.tatsteourlaughter.com/ It is going to be another great show. While we were gone last weekend, the first show Wanda and I have not been to in years, Valerie Storm rocked the place. On Friday night she received a standing ovation from the crowd and was just as good on Saturday. Possibly our best show ever is what the regulars have said. Do not forget that name.
Heather is back safely from Costa Rico with some great stories. Thank God. We just watched the movie Touristas, a good movie but I am glad I did not see it until she returned. That was not by design, but divine intervention made it that way.
Wanda screaming for me to come eat before it gets cold, so I hope we see you soon at a show. We really need your support to make the Comedy Zone a success. Live entertainment is becoming rarer every day.

Comedy Zone Fairfax opens with a Great Show

The first show at Vespucci was a success. The stage is beatiful, the food outstanding and the comedy awesome. Please take some time out of your hectic lives and stop by and say hello at the newest Comedy Zone in the country, Comedy Zone Fairfax.
Ward Anderson was just a young kid when he first visited us a few ago. In the ensuing years he has grown into a talented comedian. He is one of those rare talents that the sky's the limit. He is someone who one day you might say "We saw him back when....". He is one of Wanda's favorites. He will keep you wondering what is going to come out of his mouth next. It is time to expand. The Comedy Zone Northern Virginia is proud to introduce our newest location. The Comedy Zone Fairfax opens this Friday and Saturday with a 10:15 PM show at Vespucci's Fine Italian Restaurant located at Route 50 and Chain Bridge Road (Rt 123) in Fairfax. Now the Comedy Zone Alexandria has some company. We will have an 8 PM show at Floyd's in Alexandria and then at 10:15 PM, a show at Vespucci's in Fairfax. Two choices for you. Julie scoggins coming to Alexandria - Fairfax getting ready

We have another great show lined up for you this weekend. We are welcoming Julie Scoggins to the Comedy Zone NoVA Friday and Saturday at Floyd's. Julie entertains crowds all overe the country with down home country charm and quick wit. She will have the crowd laughing out loud wondering what is coming next. Comedy Zone Fairfax Ready to OPEN

We are proud to announce the opening of our second club in Northern Virginia.
The Comedy Zone Fairfax will open January 18th and 19th with a 10:15 PM start time. So if are out looking for some great live entertainment Friday or Saturday noght we now offer an early show at Floyd's (8 PM) in Alexandria and a late show (10:15 PM) in Fairfax.
Our new home is located at Vespucci's Fine Italian Restaurant at 10579 Fairfax Blvd. That is Route 50 at Chain Bridge Road just east of Fair Oaks Mall.
So now every Friday and Saturday you have two choices for Comedy.

Another week flying by. We would like to appologize to everyone who made the show on Saturday. Through a scheduling snafu, there were two live shows at Floyd's at the same time. they tryed to pull it off by allowing both to proceed as planned. The sound from the other show made it impossible to concentrate on the show in front of our guests. Lucas Bohn, our feature comic struggled and Mike Speenburg, who has traveled all over the world to literally thousands of clubs, said it was the worst situation he has ever had to perform in (at least fully clothed). They tried their professional best and managed somehow to entertain our guests but our appologizes go to both of them for putting them in this situation. Floyd's has assurred us that it will not ever occur and they came to the realization that comedy is not the same of music. Not only do we have the best comics around, but we found out that our guests as just as wonderful. The support they gave Lucas. Mike and ourselves after the show was heart warming. THANK YOU. On to this coming weekend.

The weeks go by so fast these days. It seems to go from Saturday after the show to Friday again in no time. My week consists of managing the Chevy's Mexican Restaurant in Greenbelt all week and Comedy Zone all weekend, so if you get up to Greenbelt ever, stop by and say hello. Anyone who works with NASA or went to University of Maryland knows all about us.
This week at the Comedy Zone we invite you a night of great entertainment. Mutzie is one of those rare talents that can make anyone laugh. Young and old, alike fall in love with him.
The Mutzie show includes music, a few props, some home grown characters and improv that is second to none! He expertly works the crowd, effortlessly leading them from laugh to laugh. They come along eagerly, never knowing what's next, and realizing that anything can happen... they always want more. One thing is certain, once you have seen a Mutzie show, you will NEVER forget him!

L.A. has been seen on BET's Comic View, MTV, VH1, & ABC's According to Jim. And, in 2008 L.A. will appear in the feature film "Universal Remote" w/Charlie Murphy. He was among the first group of comedians to perform in Iraq in Aug. 2003. In '04 he entertained the troops in Afghanistan, and has headlined tours worldwide for the USO. L.A.'s comedy is reality based about events that have taken place in his life or could happen in yours.

Just June visits Comedy Zone Alexandria

The first weekend is behind us and what a great weekend it was. If you made the show you know the comedians were two of the best we have ever had, with another great one coming up this week in Just June. She had a part in "Coming to America" starring with Eddie Murphy and brings a special presence on stage with her.
We want to thank everyone who came out and supported us during our first weekend at Floyd's. The results are in and the room is a big hit with our guests and the comedians. Saturday was a full house for our first weekend. It is only going to get better from here. So please if you are coming on this Saturday make your reservations early to insure the best seating possible.
We will start the evening out with live music beginning around 7 PM. On Friday our Jazz Trio will entertain you while you enjoy Floyd's wonderful home cooking. We highly recommend the Scallops. The Comedy will start at 8 PM and continue until 9:30 PM. So you can plan your evening accordingly.
Just June, a comedy road warrior, is the baddest and brokest comedian in the 21st century. After 20 years of standing up, for this former marine, mother, grandmother, ex-wife, and member of American Legion Post #224, Boy are her feet tired......
Did you know a laugh a day keeps the shrink away? Come laugh with Just June. Not since Richard Pryor has anyone laughed 'til they fell in love. Some of her credits include; "Joan Of Arc", "Coming To America", Fox's Comedy Express and BET's Comic View. She's a world renowned comic who has entertained soldiers both home and abroad.

Opening Weekend for the Comedyt Zone Alexandria

It has been six long months for us without the Comedy Zone. Well the wait is over. This coming weekend October 12 and 13 the Comedy Zone returns to Alexandria.
With it being our first weekend, we need to show the wonderful people of Floyd's that the Comedy Zone will draw a great crowd of people. So get a group of your friends together and come out and enjoy our unique brand of live entertainment.
The stage has been built, the sound and light systems installed and our master production man, Cory, has been hard at work to make everything work for you.
We will start the evening out with live music beginning around 7 PM. On Friday our Jazz Trio will entertain you while you enjoy Floyd's wonderful home cooking. The Comedy will start at 8 PM and continue until 9:30 PM. So you can plan your evening accordingly.
Dobie Maxwell is one of the top touring comedians in North America. His live show is a whirlwind of words, a virtual verbal hurricane. Every time he is on stage, Dobie tests the stamina of his audience. His slick ranting style has earned him a loyal and growing fan base and his knack for saying what a lot of people think have kept him constantly booked from coast to coast. Dobie works very hard at his craft and has spent his whole life learning it.
Originally from Milwaukee, WI, Dobie has been on the road since 1985. He has 'paid his dues' and continues to perfect his craft by performing as much as possible. 'I love to be on stage.' Dobie says. Comedy Zones returns to Alexandria

The Comedy Zone is returning to Alexandria on October 12th in our new home at Floyd's across the street from Landmark Mall located in the previous Chi-Chis location.
The shows begin at 8 PM every Friday and Saturday. October 13th will be our first Saturday Comedy show.

Please make your reservation today online and we will contact you to confirm. We do not have our box office set up yet at Floyd's so we will be calling you back to confirm. Great entertainment is returning and we are proud to bring it to you. Make your reservation for 7 PM and enjoy beautiful jazz music prior to the show. Comedy Zone Old Town Theater getting close

Progress is being made every day. Opening is getting close and we wanted to keep everyone updated. The kitchen is going to be installed this week and work on the marquee should be completed by weeks end. It is just about time to get this show on the road. We are proud to bring this historic building back to life. Built in 1914, we feel its best days are ahead of us. Keep an eye out for the Opening Weekend for The Comedy Zone Alexandria.

Old Town Theater Comedy Zone Coming in May

Progress is being made. The Theater is getting closer to opening every day now. Cory has been there daily, cleaning and getting the stage ready for a live show. Lots of Variety Entertainment coming your way with the Comedy Zone topping it off. Every night should be a great night of entertainment. Please do not forget Valet Parking will be complimentary with the Comedy Zone tickets.

Our latest headache has to do with the brick that is from 1914. In order to repair a hole in the front wall of the building the brick must match. Do you know how much brick is left from 1914? Not much it turns out. The BAR is not too pleased with the whole situation. Resolution still to come...one hopes.

Last weekend was heart wrenching. We took everything from Zig's and stored it for future waste.The last two shows were great and the crowds were very sentimental. We were honored by all the love and support our friends showed us.

Bettina and Johnny are down at Seacret's...where they will see us soon. Heather and Lisa are working at Chevy's with me. Rebecca, Sherri, and Aynsley will join us for Cinco de Mayo, which is a huge night for Chevy's. We all apprecaite your support and are counting on it in late May with the opening weekend.

Moving Trucks remove Zig's from Foxchase

One chapter finishes and another begins...........
The final weekend is nearing completion. Two great shows with Keith Barany, who will always have a special spot in our hearts, being the last comic standing at Zig's. Our heartfelt thanks go out to everyone who has supported Zig's over the last nine years. We would not have been able to be in this position without you.
94 years ago this week, a building permit was isssued to build the Richmond Theater on King Street in Alexandria. Back then it was not known as Old Town since the town was not old, but had a thriving vaudeville scene supporting the military during World War I. Well, we are lucky to be the stewards of this fine property. Starting in late May, we will be operating the Old Town Theater at 815 King Street. It is a very special room that we are proud to present live entertainment to Alexandria.
We will be having a variety show headlining with stand up comedy from the Comedy Zone. We are going on a long journey with the destination being the Cotton Club from Harlem in the forties. (see movies, Richard Gere in the Cotton Club). B.F. Keith had a string of theaters in early 1900's and introduced Vaudeville entertainment to the masses (read women, he cleaned the show up for everyone) and we wish to carry his mantle on. The variety show is due for a revival, especially done Zig's way.
Bettina and Johnny are getting started at Seacret's, the girls are going to be selling tacos with me at Chevy's until we open at the theater, and Wanda is going to take a much deserved rest while we reload at the theater. We can not wait to have Bettina serve me a Dirty Banana at our favorite place in the world.
We are counting the days until they return on September to the Theater.

Final Week of Zig's with Keith Barany

It is the final weekend of Zig's after nine years at Foxchase. We have been displaced by Chipolte. The McDonald's of Mexican. After documented history of live entertainment going back to World War II as Shirley Duke (1942), this location has been an entertainment oasis in Alexandria. Well the oasis has been paved into a fast food restaurant and parking lot. To paraphrase Janice.
So it is the "Blow Out" party starting Saturday after the Comedy show. Vince will start spinning around 10:30 and go until closing. We have lots of stuff to give away and pieces of history for everyone. Come and say goodbye to Wanda and Bettina this weekend.
The final weekend of the Comedy Zone brings one of our favorites, Keith Barany, to us on Friday and Saturday at 8 PM. Please call Heather and make a reservation for this weekend and help us say goodbye the right way. Your help in making this a special weekend is requested. We really want to see everyone this weekend to properly kick it off.
The anticipation of reopening is exciting and sickening at the same time. Lots of regulatory hurdles to jump there and we are taking them one at a time. The list has to end eventually and we will get back up and running with the Comedy Zone in Alexandria.
You all will the first to know anything about specific shows. We are about to sign a contract for a celebrity in June, but have to get open first in May.

Very Special Zig's Weekend with the Comedy Zone

Two more weekends left for Zig's. Closing is progressing a lot better then opening. Less red tape to close something then to open it. Although there has been tremendous progress on the Theater front also. Much thanks to Roger and Klause for their continued hard work every day at the Theater. Nine years ago we opened Zig's with a dream about providing live entertainment to the community, well the dream continues anew at the Old Town Theater in late May. We are looking at it as a step in our growth and are ready to take the plunge into PRIME TIME with the opening of one of the nation's best rooms for entertainment. Look for a variety of acts to begin showing up on our calendar. The time is nearing......

In the meantime we have an incredible show for you this weekend, April 13 and 14, at the Comedy Zone at Zig's. We welcome Mike Siscoe, Wanda's favorite out of all the comics we have had, to Zig's for the 8 PM show on Friday and Saturday this weekend.

Don't forget the following weekend will be our closing weekend with the "Blow Out" starting after the Comedy on Saturday Night.

Old Town here we Come! Comedy Zone on the Move

Awesome shows last weekend, again thanks to everyone who made it out.
This weekend we welcome Scotty K to the Comedy Zone on Friday and Saturday at 8 PM. Just recently on Late Night (seems to be a regular stop for our comics these days) and a regular on Comedy Central, his show is excellant.

How fast can a week go by? Between Chevy's, getting Zig's ready to close and getting ready to open at The Old Town Theater the week flew by.
So here we go, Zig's will be closing on April 21st after nine years at Foxchase. We will be reopening on May 10th at the Old Town Theater in Alexandria. Built in 1914 it is a very special room that with our tender loving care can be nutured into one of the best rooms in the country. For those of you who know me, I finally get the Marquee I always wanted. Lots of work and regulatory hurdles to clear between now and May 10th. We are announcing a special show in the very near future to kickoff our stay at the Old Town Theater. Stay tuned for more information on the Blow Out on the 21st.

Comedy Zone moving to Old Town at the end of April

Hello Everyone,
The Old Dominion Jazz trio is going to kick off this Friday night at Zig's, playing some great music before the Comedy Zone at 8 PM. This weekend we are very proud to welcome the Tennessee Tramp for two shows, one Friday at 8 PM and the other, Saturday at 8 PM. Just recently she has appeared on Late Night with Conan O'Brien and is also a Comedy Central regular. She is a very funny woman amd puts on an excellant show.Saturday night is a special night for us with an auction following the show to benefit the Lukemia Society. We expect a great turnout for Saturday so reservations are highly recommended. Give Heather a call at the Zig's Box Office from Noon until six, Wednesday thru Saturday to make your reservation.

Big changes going on in our world here at Zig's. After nine years, We are moving the Comedy Zone from Zig's at the end of April. Our new home is going to be the Old Town Theater on King Street in Alexandria. The Theater was built in 1914 and orginally was part of the thriving Vaudeville scene in Alexandria around World War I. We have discovered all kinds of history of the building and want to incorporate it's history in it's future. We have the opportunity to make the Theater one of the finest venues in the country. We can only do that with your help and support.
We are going to have our last show at Zig's on Saturday April 21st and our first show at the Old Town Theater on April 27th. Lots of regulatory work still to be done so more to follow in the coming weeks.
Most of you are thinking, parking in Old Town sucks, but we will have valet parking to eliminate the number one issue for you. We hope to turn the Old Town Theater into a room that the City can be proud of.

Full Weekend of Live Entertainment at Zig's

Spring has arrived. We got drunk last night at Seacret's and are going for a bike ride this morning. Ocean City springtime is special. Last night was Sysco night since their convention is in town and they had a great time. Packed Seacret's on a Monday night.

This weekend at Zig's we kick it off early with Jazz on Thursday night starting at 8 PM and accompanying a great meal hopefully. Late night we have the Hip Hop show back with us. They will get the DJs started around 10:30 PM.

Going into the weekend the Comedy Zone welcomes Dan Swartwout. He is a s funny as his name. Last time here he was awesome.
A full weekend of entertainment at Zig's for you.It is going to be tough to top last weekend. We want to thank everyone who made Saint Patrick's Day a roaring success. Good times had by all. Special shout out to Vince, who put the entertainment together and was spinning tunes all night for us. What a great night.
So plan on coming by Zig's and stop in for some live entertainment Thursday, Friday, or Saturday this weekend.

Johnny's last week is coming up, Bettina is getting ready to report to work at Seacret's in April, Heather, Sherri and Lisa school is gearing up again.

What Major laegue Baseball Player is coming to the Comed Zone?

A former Minnesota Twin, now turned stand up comic, comes to Zig's this weekend. Come check out Mike Allen at the Comedy Zone on Friday and Saturday at 8 PM at Zig's. Good thing he is already financially secure because comedy does not pay like Major League Baseball. He puts on an excellant show, so plan on coming out early for dinner.

If you are out and about on Thursday we are hosting the Old Dominion Jazz Trio this Thursday night. They will get started around 8 pm, so come enjoy a glass of wine and listen to some really good jazz.

We attended the Josh Grobin concert last night at the Verizon Center. The talent was flowing off the stage all night. His first song was in English, second song in Italian, and his third song in Spanish. He played guitar on a couple of songs, piano on a handful, and drums on one song. The man is extremely talented and seems to have some very dedicated fans running around. Wanda being one of them. Instead of playing with a band, he played with an orchestra. Amazing evening of music.

We will be announcing some exciting news in the next couple of weeks. Both relating to our lease situation and on the show front. We are trying to get a signature on the dotted line right now so we can start the promotion. Keep tuned for more.Same bat channel, same bat time, same bat newsletter.
